“Les Brigades du Tigre” is a French TV series shot and broadcasted in France in the late '70s – early '80s.
The post links to the opening credits, which start with spoken words explaining the context, and then switch to a song named “la complainte des Apaches” (‘Apaches’ was the game given to Parisian petty thugs gangs in early 1900s).
The action takes place before and after World War I, and is centred around a new police force set up by Clémenceau (nicknamed le Tigre), which deals with new forms of crime and with counter-intelligence.
The English wikipedia page is extremely limited, while the French one is huge.
It was a successful show that was broadcasted several times. Most episodes are based on some real historical event or context: robberies, anarchists/nihilists, Russian politics, warmongering, conspiracies, etc.
It was shot in real sceneries; I believe it was all shot on 16mm film, unlike British series of the same period which often seem to be shot in a strange mix of film for exteriors and TV cameras for interiors.
It was remastered from film in 2018, but I haven’t seen this new version.
The old version is available on Youtube. I didn’t find any subtitles in English or French on Opensubtitles.
