🇬🇧 This was the so-called tramway-funiculaire of Belleville in Paris, in fact a cable-car line like those in San-Francisco.

It started operating in 1891 and ran until 1924. At its peak form, it carried 5 millions passengers a year! over a single, 2 km (1¼ mi) long line, on a slope that peaked at 7%.

The machine pulling the cable delivered only 50 hp and was located near but not at the top, 300 m (330 yd) before it. The cable ran between 10 and 12 km/h (6 to 7½ mph) depending on the business of the street.
